General Motors- Holden Commodore model in the Australian car market
Automotive Founder William Durant established General Motors on 16 September 1908, in Michigan, US. Today, known as the world’s largest automaker, GM has now spread its wings all throughout North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Oceania. The name has reached in every automobile market, under their subsidiary names. Some popular names include Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac, Opel, Baojun, Isuzu, Holden and more. Holden Ltd is the official representative of GM in Australia and New Zealand, collectively called Oceania. General Motors acquired the Australian brand, Holden, in 1931. Since 2012, General Motors’s automobile model Opel was imported as a niche marquee model and was sold in the Australian automobile market under Holden brand name. However, based on poor response from people here and in New Zealand, GM has decide to pull the plug on its Opel model being sold in both, Australia and New Zealand. Holden Ltd is the automobile subsidiary of GM, and represents the
brand name in the Australian car market. The company has a wide assortment of models sold here which are produced locally and supplemented by imported GM models. In addition, Holden also enjoys a favorable market standing based on their self-produced model, Caprice and Commodore. Since 1978, the Holden Commodore has placed itself comfortable in the automotive market in Australia. The model replaced its long-serving vehicle, Kingswood, with a smaller and sleeker design model that is Opel-based. Commodore was first introduced primarily in a sedan style body, which later expanded as a station wagon and utility versions as well. Holden Commodore series is divided in a total of four generations. The first
generation series of Commodore that started in 1978 encapsulates models, VB, VC, VH, VK, and VL model. The first generation series lasted until 1988. The VB Commodore, which replaced Kingswood in Australia, was introduced as a more slender and smaller model, moreover was designed in way to serve better fuel economy. The second-generation Commodore series mainly had mechanical updates for automobile users. heavily inspired Opel in Germany. The model was launched with a semi-trailing arm independent rear suspension system. It has a 5.0-litre, V8 engine with a 5.7-litre generation III with has the capacity of churning maximum power of 300 hp. in the domestic market, VT model performed well and garnered various accolades.
